Motorists attending World Series by Renault event at Silverstone, Northamptonshire are advised to allow more time for their journey
Visitors to the World Series by Renault event at Silverstone circuit in Northamptonshire are being advised by the Highways Agency to allow plenty of time to get to the event.
The racing event takes place on Saturday 7 June and Sunday 8 June and major roads and motorways in the area are likely to be busy with an estimated additional 15,000 vehicles on the roads each day heading to and from the venue.
Through traffic using the A43 could also experience some delay due to the extra volume of motorists on this road during the weekend. Peak times for traffic heading to the circuit is likely to be between 7am and 12.30pm with spectators leaving Silverstone from 4pm on both days.
Traffic management arrangements will be in place over the two days of racing, and the A43 will remain open to through traffic but with a 50 mph speed limit in place at key stretches which will be clearly signed.
The route to the event and car parks will be clearly signposted from both the M1 and M40. Drivers using the motorways will be informed of any delays ahead on the variable messages signs set by the Highways Agency, and our electronic mobile signs will also be located on the A43.
Bob Gale, Highways Agency spokesman, said:
"The routes to the event and its car parks will be well signposted but anyone travelling to the circuit and in the area should plan their journey in advance and check the latest travel conditions before they set out.
"We have provided as much information as we can to allow people to make their journeys safely and reliably but people should be prepared for some delay."
The Agency, which manages motorways and major roads in England, is also advising drivers to keep up-to-date with the latest road conditions on radio travel bulletins while they are on the road.
Drivers can get up-to-the-minute information by phoning the Highways Agency Information Line on 08457 504030, via our website: http://www.highways.gov.uk or by listening to the Highways Agency's Traffic Radio on DAB digital radio or online at http://www.trafficradio.org.uk
