Fun For All The Family at Fun Run!
| Published: 9th June 2008 17:10 |

There is still time to enter South Northamptonshire Council’s second annual 3km Family Fun Run, which starts at 11am on Sunday 22 June at Towcester Racecourse.
Organised by the Council and Run for the Children, a national community fitness initiative, fun runners can raise money for the Children’s Trust, or if they prefer, for a charity of their choice. The Children’s Trust provides care, education and therapy to children with multiple disabilities and complex health needs.
The aim of the Fun Run is to get the whole family more active so they gain all the associated health benefits from exercising. Everyone who finishes will receive a medal. Also this year, contestants can cycle their way twice round the course. The 6km cycle ride is part of the national Bike Week campaign and will start at 12pm.
Councillor Sandi Smallman, portfolio holder for healthier communities, said, “Mums, dads, grandparents and children are encouraged to run, jog, walk or cycle the course. The emphasis is on having fun and not winning, it really is the taking part that counts!”
Also to celebrate their 10th anniversary, Humphrey’s Corner, a partner charity of the Children’s Trust, will be holding their own afternoon tea party at the racecourse. Tickets are £10 per child and include party food, party bag, disco, children’s entertainment and the chance to meet Humphrey himself.
Adults and children will also get the opportunity to meet Sally Hunter, the creator of Humphrey’s Corner, who will be more than happy to sign books and other gifts that can be purchased on the day. Tickets are limited and can be purchased online at www.humphreys-corner.com
There will be lots of other fun activities for the whole family including Black Thunder from Northants 96, cycling skills coaching, balloon modelling, circus skills workshop, and juggling with Silly Soapy the clown. Refreshments will be available from a mobile coffee shop and ice cream van.
You can get entry forms for the Fun Run and Cycle from Run for the Children on 01903 833941 or www.runforthechildren.co.uk. Entry forms have also been delivered to local schools and libraries and are available from the Council offices at Springfields.
