Chairman of the Northampton Branch of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), Jeff Sutherland-Kay and Chris Insall, Vice Chairman with responsibility for the Towcester Division, together with a D Class Inflatable Lifeboat credited with saving 17 lives during its service with the Reserve Fleet of the RNLI, and backed up by a dedicated and enthusiastic team of volunteeer supporters and RNLI members, have returned to Waitrose, Towcester, for a 3-day fund-raising collection over this weekend, 13th/14th/15th June, 2008.
The RNLI, a registered Charity, dedicated to saving lives at sea. Less well-known is the contribution the RNLI makes to flood rescue operations inland. In July 2007, the RNLI was quickly on the scene in Gloucestershire, Tewkesbury, and parts of Worcestershire, rescuing some 74 flood victims. The RNLI has recently launched the Life First campaign, with the emphasis on improving safety at the UK's beaches, and is steadily increasing the number of beaches which enjoy the reassuring presence of well-equipped and trained RNLI Lifeguards during the summer holiday season.
