The Parish of Paulersbury is set to have greater input over its future developments.
On Wednesday (20 September 2017) South Northamptonshire Council’s (SNC) Planning Policy and Regeneration Strategy Committee approved the Paulersbury Parish Council’s (PPC) application to establish a Neighbourhood Area (NA).
The decision will allow PPC to create a Neighbourhood Plan (NP) should they wish to, under provisions in the 2011 Localism Act.
Cllr Roger Clarke said: “Approving Neighbourhood Area applications from local communities is about empowering them to make the best decisions for their immediate area. Neighbourhood planning gives communities the opportunity to create a shared vision for their community, and shape the development of their local area.
“It gives power to the people who will be directly impacted by new homes, shops, offices and overall infrastructure. SNC is committed to guiding Paulersbury Parish Council through the process, and ensuring any plans that are developed align with the strategic needs and priorities of the wider local area.”
The drafting process requires at least two formal six week consultations. Once SNC confirms that the draft plan complies with local and national planning policy, it is then studied by an independent examiner.
Village residents are then asked in a referendum if they wish for the Neighbourhood Plan to be adopted.
