The Pint And Parcel Opens For Business

Published: 30th June 2009 17:38

Use your local

As the number of pub closures in Britain reaches 50 a week, Scottish & Newcastle UK is backing the launch of useyourlocal.com, an innovative new parcel collection business, designed to give consumers more reasons to visit their local - and to help put pubs back at the heart of the community.

The initiative is the brainchild of former S&N UK manager Stuart Mills who is heading the joint venture set up with his former company. Stuart said: “We all know that pubs and clubs across the UK are having a tough time at the moment but we also know that opportunities exist to help pubs and clubs  to improve the marketing of their outlet and offer new services to their customers.“

Licensees can join online at www.useyourlocal.com for just £50+VAT a year giving them:

  • Their own website
  • The ability to email news & offers directly to their locals
  • A point of sale kit to help them get locals to join them online
  • The option to let their locals have parcels delivered to their outlet

Stuart added: “Whilst the benefit of being able to promote their pubs online has undoubtedly struck a chord with licensees, it is the opportunity to have parcels delivered to their local that’s fuelling consumer interest in the initiative.

“With the Royal Mail alone making around 40 million unsuccessful first time deliveries a year, this is a very real problem and an incredible waste of time, effort and money for everyone. Most people regard a visit to their local pub as infinitely more appealing than the prospect of joining the queue at their ‘not-so-local’ sorting office on a wet Saturday morning and hopefully the trip will help people rediscover the delights of the great British pub!”
