Fun Run and Cycle a Success

Fun Run and Cycle a Success

One hundred and fifty people took part in the second annual Fun Run and Cycle on Sunday 22 June at Towcester Racecourse, organised by South Northamptonshire Council and Run for the Children to raise money for charity.

Participants aged from two to 61 years old took part in the 3km Fun Run. One father pushed his 16 month old daughter around the course. Thirty of the contestants chose to cycle their way twice round the course this year, in support of National Bike Week.

Participants were asked to pay an admission fee of £6 or raise sponsorship money for The Children’s Trust, who help children with multiple disabilities and complex health needs.

Councillor Rebecca Breese, Chairman of the Council, was at the finish line giving out medals to all fun runners and cyclists who completed the course.

Also to celebrate their 10th anniversary, Humphrey’s Corner, a partner charity of the Children’s Trust, held their own afternoon tea party at the racecourse, where children and adults had the chance to meet Sally Hunter, the creator of Humphrey’s Corner.

Councillor Rebecca Breese said, “The South Northamptonshire Fun Run and Cycle has been a great success and congratulations to everyone who completed the course.

“The event was not just about raising money but also about introducing people young and old to the importance of getting enough physical activity.

“We must say a big thank you to Run for the Children, Humphrey’s Corner and all those who took part in the event. With their efforts, £1000 was raised for The Children’s Trust.”

Because the Fun Run and Cycle was such a success, the Council hopes to organise the event again next year.
