The preparation for the launch of a new primary school in Towcester is creating quite a buzz. The new school, Towcester CE Primary School, will open its doors on 2nd September formed from the closure of Towcester Infants School and St Lawrence CE Junior School.
The children and staff of both schools are busy preparing as much as possible in advance. The children deciding on the new logo; the school prayer and banner; class names and uniform colours, and the staff structure and teaching plans are being prepared under the leadership of Marion O’Grady, head teacher designate.
“One of our first jobs was the new school uniform,” says Mrs O’Grady. “After a lot of discussion between the two school councils and a democratic vote amongst the children, we have chosen royal blue as the colour. The children have been modelling the different styles of uniform and there is real excitement building for the first day of the new school!”
The complete range of uniform is now available to order from St Lawrence School and includes sweatshirt, cardigan, black or grey trousers, pinafore dress and a light blue gingham dress for the summer.
But the best news of all is that every pupil is being given a royal blue sweatshirt, free of charge!
“We want to give every child a free sweatshirt and for them to take pride in the new uniform and look smart on the first day of school,” say Tracey Johnson and Dawn Warwick on behalf of FOSLS (Friends of St Lawrence School) and FOTIS (Friends of Towcester Infants School). “Parents from both groups work really hard fund-raising and we all agreed a good way to use our funds is to help the new school and the many children and families with free school uniform.”
So in September, watch out Towcester – here come the royal blues!
