A local disability sports club, Disability Inclusive Sports Club (DISC), has achieved Clubmark and become the first disability specific sports club in Northamptonshire and the second in the East Midlands to gain the accreditation.
Clubmark is the only national cross sports quality accreditation scheme for clubs with junior sections. It is built around a set of core criteria which ensure that accredited clubs operate to a set of consistent, accepted and adopted minimum operating standards.
DISC were presented with their Clubmark certificate at a special awards ceremony on Sunday 17 July 2011 at 3:45pm in the sports hall at Towcester Centre for Leisure.
In attendance was the Vice-Chairman of South Northamptonshire Council, Councillor Diana Dallyn, and the Mayor of Towcester, Councillor Martin Johns.
Lynette Emary, chair of DISC, said: "We are very proud to have been awarded Clubmark. This is recognition of the high quality standards that we put in place for our members. I would like to thank everyone at DISC for making this possible but my biggest thanks and praise goes to Vice-Chairman of Disc, Chris Broderick and South Northamptonshire’s Sports Development Officer, Colin Hull. They have put an incredible amount of time and effort into obtaining this accreditation and for that our club is truly grateful!"
Councillor Rosie Herring, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, said, “We are very proud to have this unique club based in our district and I would like to add my congratulations to DISC on this wonderful achievement.”
