The pristine new fingerpost at Abthorpe crossroads.
Mick Hulbert from our village is an enthusiastic motorcyclist. Back in May 2012 he was out on a ride with fellow members of the Vintage Motorcycle Club. The route instructions they were following advised riders that as they approached Abthorpe cross roads they were to turn right as there was no fingerpost pointing the way to our village. Mick was somewhat perplexed as he hadn’t noticed it was missing and neither it subsequently admitted had our parish council. A photograph taken seven months previously showed no sign of the finger post. So how long it had been missing remained a mystery. But the Parish Council did contact the County Council and ask for a new fingerpost.
This week a pristine, highly polished and very smart new fingerpost appeared as if by magic. Its four arms point the way for travellers who wish to get to Abthorpe, Wappenham, Sulgrave, Foscote, Towcester, Silverstone, Whittlebury, Bradden, Woodend and Blakesley.
As Mick stated back in 2012, “One doesn’t notice that it’s missing until you need it.” I suspect that if this one goes missing we will notice it immediately.
