On Friday, 10 March 2017 Yvonne Rees was selected as the preferred candidate as Joint Chief Executive of South Northamptonshire and Cherwell District Councils.

The decision was made following the announcement in December 2016 that Sue Smith would be standing down from her position as Joint Chief Executive of both councils in March 2017.

Yvonne is currently the Chief Executive of Mole Valley District Council and also Strategic Director for Customers and Communities at Surrey County Council, a joint post she has held since September 2012. She brings with her a wealth of experience from a local government and commercial career spanning 27 years.

Of the appointment, Yvonne Rees said: “This is a hugely exciting opportunity for me and one that poses plenty of new challenges which I hope to rise to, bringing a fresh perspective and wealth of new ideas.”

Cllr Ian McCord, Leader of SNC, said: “Yvonne exhibits great scope in terms of her experience in local government, in particular with working across two councils, as well as her commercial background.

“We were looking for a candidate that could demonstrate a forward thinking attitude to how councils should operate. I firmly believe that Yvonne can satisfy the needs and challenges of both councils whilst delivering on our plans and taking us to the next level."

Cllr Barry Wood, Leader of Cherwell District Council, said: “I am delighted that Yvonne has been appointed Joint Chief Executive, and trust that she will be a great asset for both councils.
“With her background and expertise, I am certain that she can help us to continue with our successes.”

In taking up her new post Yvonne will be leaving her current roles as Chief Executive of Mole Valley District Council and Strategic Director for Customers and Communities at Surrey County Council.

During her time at Surrey and Mole Valley Yvonne has had a key role in assisting both councils to manage the financial challenges facing local government, helping join up the work of the two authorities and continually looking to improve services and value for money for residents.

Cllr Vivienne Michael, Leader of Mole Valley District Council, said: “I have greatly enjoyed working with Yvonne and we have achieved a great deal together for the residents of Mole Valley. She will be greatly missed, not just by me but by all her colleagues, our partners and other elected members but we wish her all the best in her new role and I am confident she will be successful.”

David Hodge, Leader of Surrey County Council, said: "We will be sorry to see Yvonne leave Surrey. She has served the council and our residents tremendously well over the years and helped us to always provide high quality services to local people."

Yvonne Rees will be formally appointed as Joint Chief Executive by Cherwell District Council on Wednesday, 22 March and South Northamptonshire Council on Thursday, 23 March and will begin her new post in the summer.
