Cameron Emerson bowls East Haddon
Towcestrians 1st XI v East Haddon
It was a disappointing result for Tows 1st XI’s first home game of the season as they failed to chase a small target set by East Haddon.
The recent poor weather meant the fixture was in doubt until Saturday morning. Even though the conditions were less than ideal, with some standing water still on the outfield and a slow wicket, the match did start on time.
The visitors lost the toss and were inserted. They were immediately in trouble as Cameron Emerson and Kevin Hawkins removed both openers before Emerson struck again and they slumped to 17/3. A well compiled century partnership between Stephan Joubert (68) and Darren Harrision (61) then started to repair the innings and they were particularly severe on Tows bowlers Alex Blanchard and Matt Yuill.
It took the guile of Alan Edwards and the returning Emerson to restore Tows advantage as Edwards had Joubert caught by Yuill and then Emerson caught and bowled Harrison. These two were then able to wrap up the innings very efficiently. Edwards’ figures of 3/26 from 9.5 overs were good but Emerson’s effort of 6/17 off 14 overs was outstanding.
In spite of the soft conditions East Haddon’s total of 162 was one that Tows were more than capable of chasing. However although a number of Tows batsmen got a start – Alan Edwards 35, Matt Yuill 31, Cameron Emerson 21 – no one could a play the one big innings that the situation demanded. Needing 50 runs off 18 overs with 5 wickets remaining the lower order succumbed to the accurate bowling of Simon Pearson (3/22), Stuart Keeping (3/21) and Stephan Joubert (3/36) and Tows were dismissed for 140.
Next week the 1s travel to local rivals Stony Stratford.
