New Sports Pitches in Towcester

South Northamptonshire Council has approved plans for new sports pitches in Towcester. Earlier this year, Towcester Town Football Club re-submitted a planning application for change of use on land at the Bell Plantation garden centre just off the A5/A43 roundabout outside Towcester.
This site will include a number of football and cricket pitches, temporary changing room facilities, and an additional 46 parking spaces.
Planning permission for new sports pitches will help address the current shortage of sports pitches across South Northamptonshire. A recent report by PMP, a consultancy who specialise in sport, leisure and culture, has previously highlighted the lack of play pitch provision in the town.
Councillor Sandi Smallman, portfolio holder for healthier communities, said: “We are happy to support Towcester Town Football Club’s proposal to use local land to accommodate a much-needed facility.
“Towcester does not have any large scale provision of sports pitches and unfortunately there is no publicly-owned land which the Council could give over to the use. Although there were a few concerns regarding the locality of the site, this was outweighed by the need for the pitches for the well-being of the community.
“Whilst the Towcester Vale development could provide additional sports pitches, if the development goes ahead, it could be many years before we get results, and this is an issue that needs to be resolved fast.”
