Easter Celebrated In Traditional Way in Alderton

Rolling Away The Stone - during the service the village children enacted the Easter Story.
After the service and hot cross buns - the village congretated at Spring Lane for the traditional Easter Bonnet parade - a very good turn out despite freezing temperatures.
Egg and Spoon races were held for all age groups - quite a bit of cheating - but winners and runners up won a prize of an Easter Egg.
The Ladies Egg and Spoon proved very competitive with children egging them on!
The Men's Race proved very competitive - but with stricter rules the first over the line did not necessarily win - too much cheating!
Innes winner of the men's race - third over the line - but without cheating!
After warming up during the Egg and Spoon Races - the village returned to the church where the children enthusiastically hunted for eggs hidden around the churchyard.
We all awoke on Easter Sunday to find a covering of snow and freezing temperatures - undeterred Alderton kept with tradition and held the church service in St Margarets - to a full house - the service partly conducted by PCC member Dawn Macauley included an Easter Play by the children.
After the service warm drinks, hot cross buns for the adults and cakes for the children provided energy for the trip to the bottom of the village for the games.
Easter Bonnet Parade - came first - with a faster step to keep out the cold - winners and runners up in the classes - all winning chocolate eggs.
Followed quickly by the Egg and Spoon Races - under 5s, 5 to 9s, under 18s, mens and women's all in quick succession, eggs for the winners.
Back up to the church for eagerly awaited Egg Hunt - all the children collected eggs from around the churhyard handing them in - before they were shared out equally.
An excellent Easter morning.
