The 2017 Article 4 Direction for Deanshanger Conservation Area necessitates householders apply for planning permission for changes that would not normally need authorisation by the council, known as permitted development, such as changing the guttering or the removal of a porch.

Cllr Roger Clarke, South Northamptonshire Council’s (SNC) portfolio holder for planning and environment, said: “Conservation Areas are put in place to recognise that parts of South Northamptonshire are of special architectural and historic value and to help ensure that they are appropriately managed.

“However they cannot prevent the creeping change within an area, as householders replace traditional window frames with white plastic, or install satellite dishes or CCTV.

“Article 4 Directions enhance the effectiveness of the Conservation Areas and will help the council protect what makes this district special.

“It does not rule out change, but it will allow the council to make sure any change improves or maintains the character of an area”.

There are 62 Conservation Areas in South Northamptonshire and the Deanshanger Conservation Area is one of 13 in the district covered by an Article 4 Direction.

Following consultation with Deanshanger Parish Council and householders, the renewed Article 4 Direction for Deanshanger increases the number of properties covered from 39 to 73.

The remaining 12 Article 4 Directions will now be reviewed and renewed for Conservation Areas covering; Aynho, Blisworth, Brackley, Chacombe, Evenley, Gayton, King’s Sutton, Middleton Cheney, Milton Malsor, Towcester, Wicken and Yardley Gobion.

strange how the people who don't live in these areas stop the people that DO from getting any planning permission .
well Terasa May has said things should change . but they will not .
