The Towcester Safer Community Team is working with schools in the area to promote road safety to their pupils, with the help of the road safety hedgehog.
Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Jen Harrison was at Deanshanger Primary School in Deanshanger, Northampton, yesterday with PCSO Richard Markham who was dressed in the hedgehog suit to accompany the children safely across the road as they left for home, with the assistance of their resident lollipop lady.
Obstructive parking is a big issue outside of the school and the presence of PCSO Jen Harrison attempts to reduce the dangers.
"Parents of pupils at the school also play a proactive role by offering advice about parking and pointing out where the bus will need to drive through to other parents and guardians as they drop off and collect their children from school," said PCSO Jen Harrison.
The school’s Junior Road Safety Officers are also taking part in the Road Safety campaign by making posters and pupils from years 5 and 6 are designing advice sheets which will be handed out to their parents and guardians
