Those Young Minds

YoungMinds, the UK's leading children's mental health charity, is launching Those Young Minds, a campaign to encourage fathers to seek help when they are concerned about their children.
'Nine out of every ten parents who call our helpline are mothers,' says project coordinator Daryl Nicholas. 'We want fathers to get the message that it's OK for them to be concerned about their children, and to take action. They don't have to leave it to mothers.'
Using comedy as a way to engage fathers with their children's emotional well-being, the Those Young Minds campaign message will be delivered via a stand-up show from award winning comedian John Ryan.
The Those Young Minds show will preview at Leicester Comedy Festival in February, with a London premiere in March and then tour nationally.
John Ryan has helped produce a series of short films to promote the campaign, which can be viewed at: http://www.youtube.com/group/youngminds
A recording of the show will also be available on the YoungMinds website.
John Ryan spoke to over 100 fathers about their experiences as part of his research for the show. John Ryan: 'I wanted to find out how they spent time with their children and how prepared they were when they discovered they were going to be a parent. No one gives you a manual. You just get a baby and are expected to know what to do with it!'
Those Young Minds written and performed by John Ryan takes place on 13th February 2008 at Phoenix, Leicester as part of the 15th Leicester Comedy Festival. Box office: 0116 255 4854
