Local litter wardens
| Published: 29th April 2008 15:24 |
Councillor Stan Heptinstall (elected County Councillor for Bramcote and Stapleford) has sent details of a proposal he has submitted for the introduction of local litter wardens.
Broxtowe Borough Council is giving consideration to establishing a group of volunteer litter wardens. The following possible framework has been put forward:
1. One litter warden per defined area (e.g. collection of streets).
2. The name of the warden and contact details to be advertised within the area.
3. Local people to be asked to report accumulations of litter to the warden.
4. The warden to report accumulations of litter to the council.
5. Each warden to be issued with equipment for picking up litter which can be borrowed by people in the area.
6. Wardens to be encouraged to organise litter picks at intervals.
Please contact Stan to let him know what you think about this idea, whether this framework is appropriate, and whether you would be willing to become a warden for an area. Contact details:

This looks like a great idea to get local NG9 communities working together to improve their area for the benefit of everyone. I recognise that litter clearing is one of the services provided by the Broxtowe Borough Council and they should be meeting the litter clearing demands but in these financial challenging times litter clearing in NG9 may not be the priority. Lets face it people create the litter, and we will all say not me, so why should we not help clear it up. If we want to have real pride in the areas in which we live, work positively with our neighbours and let visitors see that we live in a pleasant environment then get involved with this initiative in any way you can.
