Exmoor grit supply not for private use
| Published: 19th February 2010 09:07 |
With the onset of colder weather and the prospect of more snow, the Exmoor Panel is appealing for people to be community-minded and make sure that roadside grit is left on site for everyone to share.
Cllr Steven Pugsley, Chairman of the Exmoor Panel, which unites many parishes across the moor, said: "Grit is placed at known trouble spots and people are welcome to use the grit to make these areas safer.
"However, the grit is not intended for use on private property. If the weather worsens again, people who take the grit for their own use could be putting others in their community at risk.
"We are asking people to put their community first and make sure that there's enough to go around at these trouble spots, particularly when conditions are bad and it is hard for vehicles to get through to replenish the supplies."
