Porlock Lights up the Night

The crowds were out in force, and really enjoying themselves; making my job very easy as I walked round the shops, looking for photo opportunities. Fortunately there was a real photographer on site - Steve Guscott, from the Free Press was also enjoying himself and finding interesting subjects to take home for publishing next Friday.

Richard - a master showman - entertained his customers
Living in Minehead, as I do, I could feel a twinge of envy for the morale that the people of Porlock keep high and healthy. This does not happen by accident. A lot of hard work goes into these events - from the big name movers and shakers (like Richard Growden, of Antlers Pet Supplies and Clive Downs, butcher extraordinaire) to the staff in all the shops (some of whom live outside the area). Not forgetting the groups that entertain us - the Morris dancers, in particular have been very busy this month throughout the district.

Watchet Town Band got a few people dancing
The children were kept amused by their own competition, devised by Andy Short from the Post Office. Their mission was to seek out the whereabouts of toy frogs from various hiding places in the shop windows.

Kept out of mischief with a competition
This site salutes all those who took part in last night’s late night show.
