I was born and brought up in West Somerset returning 11 years ago to settle at Doniford. I am employed in Administration at Danesfield School and Chair the Williton Parish Council.
What I want for Williton:
• Our diverse shops and businesses safeguarded. We need more encouragement for people to take the plunge into self employment creating small but sustainable businesses.
• Our Village Centre enhanced to take into account improvement in the roads and safer pedestrian access. I would like to look at providing a pedestrian crossing in Long Street, to both enable safer crossing of the road and to slow traffic down.
• Balanced housing developed, looking after the needs of those setting up home for the first time, established families and the retired seeking to downsize.
• Employment for our young people which can capitalise on opportunities arising from the proposed Hinkley Point development.
• More facilities for the young people of the Village, I think we should be able to provide skateboard equipment in the Village on a permanent site.
• Better use of our public buildings with schools and local government facilities being opened up for community use.
It is all too easy to be negative about development and change but we need to make it work for us and our children. Change always needs to be the subject of open discussion and I have encouraged this in my role with the Parish Council.
I would like to see all levels of local government working together. With a Conservative District Council talking to a Conservative County Council we should be able to achieve this.
I intend to be available to all our community, me email address is rosemary4williton@gmail.com , or phone 01984 634681.
