The closing date for comments on the extra information submitted by EDF Energy to make its Environmental Statement complete, which forms part of its planning application for Site Preparation Works for two new nuclear reactors at Hinkley Point in West Somerset, has been extended until 5pm on May 31, 2011.
Andrew Goodchild, West Somerset Council's Planning Manager, said: "We made a formal request to EDF for additional information to complete its application, which we received on April 26.
"Since re-opening the consultation, we have received numerous requests from members of the public to extend it beyond the original deadline of May 20. The information is quite technical and, in some cases, sets out changes to the earlier submission.
"It is a major application that will undoubtedly affect local people's lives and key transport corridors if it is approved. We have listened to people's concerns and we consider their requests for more time to be justified. Consequently, we have agreed to extend the consultation until May 31."
The documents are available for inspection online at the council's website at www.westsomersetonline.gov.uk/hinkleypoint or at the council's headquarters in West Somerset House, Killick Way, Williton, TA4 4QA.
