Minehead Football Club appeal for support staff
| Published: 31st July 2008 12:00 |

Minehead FC's current Treasurer Brian Walder, has made a passionate heartfelt plea in an attempt to attract more committee members and helpers to swell the clubs' ranks.
We have a largely young, local, unpaid squad who are dedicated to the club.
As well as the First XI, and Reserve teams, a very successful youth set-up bolsters the club, with teams from the ages of 6 up to 16 representing the club and the town. It is hoped that an Under 18 side, along with a ladies and a girls team, can also be introduced in the very near future.

The club is in a relatively comfortable financial position, and has recently paid for the Irnham Road floodlights to be completely overhauled. This has also meant that the retention of their FA Cup birth, and now face the prospect of a mouth-watering home tie against Southern League neighbours Taunton Town, should they manage to overcome Clevedon United at Irnham Road first.
Existing Chairman Adrian Giblett, who has a long history with the club both on and off the pitch, has recently taken the reigns as First Team Manager, and is very keen to take the playing side of the club forward. He will however be unable to fulfil both roles, consequently a new Chair Person needs to be found.
To help move the club forward off the pitch we need more helpers.
Whether assisting with one of the many tasks at home matches, or taking on a task which can be completed outside of match-day hours, there is always plenty to do. Our ideal "line-up" includes:
- a Chair-Person,
- Treasurer,
- Fixture Secretary,
- Grounds-Person (plus a small support team),
- Fund Raising,
- Programme Editor,
- Laundry Person
- and hopefully a Webmaster.
In addition, on match-days we can use help from people prepared to be:
- kit-person,
- gate-persons/stewards,
- programme sellers,
- raffle ticket sellers,
- catering assistants etc etc.
When it all comes together it can be very satisfying to be part of a successful, well organised community football club.
Also transporting the team to away matches would run more smoothly if someone was prepared to come forward as Transport Manager, and hopefully take care of the club's minibus.
Several of us from the existing committee will again commit to many of the above tasks and positions, but without new blood we are unlikely to complete all that we want to achieve. In addition to all this there is a long wish-list in existence documenting the short and long term maintenance jobs on the ground and premises. Though it could be argued that the Town Council is responsible for many of the maintenance issues, we are keen to show that we are not going to be a burden them.
Where personal circumstances and commitment allows, one person can probably take on more than one task, however a major key to the efficient, smooth running of any club is that many hands make light work, with each individual aspect then not becoming a burden or too much of a chore.
If anybody, of any age and from any walk of life, has the slightest inclination that they can help, would they please come along to our
Annual General Meeting being held at the Hobby Horse on Wednesday 6th August at 7:30pm,
where we would be very pleased to see you.
Should anyone prefer to talk anything through prior to the meeting, please contact me on 01643 706850, and I can either explain more, or put you in touch with a committee member who can.
