E - Emergency! Stick your hand up and shout. Tell a lifeguard or dial 999 for the coastguard.
Dangers at the seaside
- Standing too close to the cliff edge
- Using an inflatable with no-one holding on to it
- Climbing cliffs
- Walking a dog off the lead near a cliff edge
- Sitting under a cliff in danger of falling rocks
- Swimming between chequered flags!
Know the flag meanings
A red flag means danger! So do not enter the water.
Red and yellow flag shows the area of the beach patrolled by lifeguards, and which areas are safe to swim.
Black and white chequered flag shows the area of water for boats/surfers.
Do NOT swim in this area!
An orange windsock flying means dangerous wind conditions and you shouldn't use a toy inflatable on the sea.
Whatever the view, don't get side-tracked!
