Engage West Somerset's Voluntary Sector Development Agency is celebrating its First Anniversary in its new home at Alcombe Village Hall.
Formerly based in cramped premises in Quirke Street, the organisation has now benefited hugely from the move to spacious accommodation where visitors can enjoy easier access and, for the Furniture Re-use Project, much more space to display all the goods on offer.
Engage West Somerset supports local groups and charities to help them achieve their goals.
Jan Ross, Engage's Development Worker, has been in the post for nearly a year now. The post is funded by Big Lottery and Jan has worked intensively with 30 local groups on a one-to -one basis and much of her work with these is on-going.
The type of help and support given to these groups ranges from help with constitutional matters, policies for staffing issues such as job descriptions, recruitment procedures, contracts, risk assessments, business plans and Charity Commission registration , but most of Jan's work has involved helping groups with funding advice and help with funding applications.
Jan told us "I am pleased to report that 13 groups have been successful with their funding applications, bringing in a total of £269,000 to the district for their invaluable work in the area and we have a further 9 groups with applications currently being prepared or submitted totalling, if successful, a further £321,000".
Jan can be contacted at Alcombe Village Hall or by phoning 01643 707123 or email email@example.com .
