Coordinator Claire supports youth Groups

The YMCA on Lisieux Way is getting set to welcome 8-19 year olds at two new youth groups from the middle of September 2008.
Community Youth Work Coordinator Claire Smy has recently been appointed to develop and run a Junior Youth Group on Fridays from 6.30-8.30 pm, and a Senior Youth Group on Thursdays from 7-9 pm. The junior group will welcome 8-12 year olds, whilst the senior group is aimed at 13-19 year olds.
Activities will be focused on covering the YMCA England areas of: sport, health, exercise and fitness; crime and safety; education and skills; money and work, and citizenship and personal development.
Activities planned for the autumn include:
- Creating a wildlife and produce garden
- Photography skills
- Arts and crafts
- Games and sports
- Taunton treasure hunt
- Escape Parkour talk and demonstration
- First aid skills
It is hoped that as the group grows, many projects will be ongoing, and will be based on the interests and needs expressed by the youth group members.
Claire says "I am really looking forward to meeting the young people of the area and can't wait to hear their ideas for the youth groups. These groups are for them, and I want to help provide sessions that they enjoy." So come along to the YMCA from the week beginning 15th September and let Claire know what activities you'd like to see happening in your area.
£1 entry include refreshments
