Local Officers receive Commendation

Four police officers in the Somerset West policing district have been presented with District Commander's Commendations after being recognised for their outstanding work last month.

Superintendent Damian Kearney, who presented the awards, said: "We are delighted to be able to recognise the consistently diligent work of our officers. The hard work and determination of these individuals has helped build safer, stronger neighbourhoods across the district."

PCSO Sean Roper, Taunton

PCSO Sean Roper was awarded a Commendation for his good work supporting the Halcon community in Taunton with outstanding enthusiasm.
Sean was congratulated for his involvement in various youth diversionary activities and community engagement initiatives, such as the Lambrook Youth Club, Taunton East Boxing Club and the Community Football Training programme. These initiatives allow young people in Halcon to build strong relationships with local officers and provide them with fun activities, that don't break the law.

PC Pete Wills, Burnham

PC Wills was commended for his work with the Burnham Radiolink scheme. He has been instrumental in managing the initiative and has worked hard to build strong relationships with Sedgemoor District Council, Burnham Security Group and local traders.
He has also been working closely with the Burnham community to tackle antisocial driving issues on the Espanade, acts as the wildlife liaison officer for the area and is continuing to arrange the installation of an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera in Brean.
PC Wills was also recognised for assisting in the arrest of an offender who, after assaulting his colleague, escaped in a stolen vehicle.

PC Ian Gomulka, Bridgwater

PC Ian Gomulka received the District Commander's Commendation after he conducted a prompt investigation into the whereabouts of a missing woman in February 2008. She was eight months pregnant and a diabetic.
His efforts ensured that she was found quickly and after treatment in hospital, both mother and baby were safely returned to their family.

PC Ian Weager, Bridgwater

PC Ian Weager received the District Commander's Commendation for various good work, including a number of vehicle stops, which resulted in the recovery of £7000 worth of stolen plant equipment and the arrest of a prolific offender.
PC Weager also arranged two Misuse of Drugs Act warrants based on community intelligence, which resulted in three arrests.
