Budding amateur photographers in West Somerset only have until December 8 to enter their sharpest shots for a chance to clinch the prestigious title of West Somerset's Amateur Digital Photographer of the Year 2008.

The competition has been organised by Westlabb Ltd to recognise top local talent in the field of digital photography.
Westlabb director Jon Summers explained, "People have submitted some great pictures already and have until December 8 to submit the rest of their snaps on-line to win a category prize or the junior or senior Amateur Photographer of the Year 2008 titles. We want to promote our great local talent by showcasing the best pictures taken in the district during this year."
The four prize-winning categories are:
1. Your Favourite Landscape / Seascape
The winning image will be used to promote West Somerset so choose land or seascapes that you love, and that others will love too. West Somerset's contrasting countryside, seaside and moods give you free rein to let your imagination run wild and delight us with your best shot!
2. Your Favourite Event or Village
West Somerset is blessed with a wide variety of events throughout the year, from Farmers' Markets, the Dunster Show, the Porlock Arts Festival, Exmoor Rock through to your village fete - what's going on in your town or village that you think we should know about?
3. Promote your Local Businesses
This is a category that will test your skills! Our local businesses are great and we want the world to know it - how can your image help us to help promote them? This could be your chance to be truly original - from the weird and wonderful through to picture postcard - we'd love to see your take on how to make the ordinary seem extraordinary
