FIREFIGHTER RECRUITMENT OPEN EVENING
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service are calling out for new firefighters to join in the Wells area.
The Service is hoping to recruit retained firefighters, at a recruitment open evening, for stations in Castle Cary, Wincanton, Shepton Mallet, Wells and Glastonbury.
The open evening will take place at Wells Fire Station on Tuesday 25th November between 6:30 - 8:30pm. The evening gives potential recruits a taste of working at a Fire Station. They will also be given the chance to look around the appliances and equipment and have any queries answered.
Fire-fighters are builders, housewives, postal workers, shop keepers...in fact they come from all and every walk of life. The only thing that they have in common is that they have all decided to put something back into the community by becoming trained fire-fighters.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service can provide the fire station, the fire engines, the equipment and the training, but the firefighters themselves have to come from the community.
Watch Manager Mike Toop said: "Ideally we are seeking recruits who can offer 24 hour cover, however we would consider those who could offer the Day Cover which we so desperately require at those Stations."
Retained firefighters are paid and respond to incidents via a pager. They need to be reasonably fit, over 18-years-old and live or work within a few minutes of the station. A part-time job as a retained firefighter could also lead to a full time post.
