Upheavel of Cathedral Green

The view of the Cathedral from the Swan Hotel, Sadler StreetI can tell you what's missing ... a beautiful old tree!
Work undertaken here is described on the notice boards that have been erected behind the ugly steel barrriers on the green as 'radical'.
They've chopped down trees that are over 100 years old, but don't worry, 'cos they will replace them with some 2 year old saplings that the local yobs will snap in half before you know i!!!
And why are these developments taking place?
Apparently, the authorities don't want deliveries to be made across the diagonal of the green, so they are to be routed around the edge. What rot ... it's not as if the deliveries are that frequent. Why have deliveries going across or around the green at all? Haven't people heard of truck sacs?
The last sad remains of the beautiful old trees that used to grace the edge of the green!
I like many others, knew there were plans to re-develop the Green, but I was just not ready to see the devistation that this development entailled.
Maybe I'm just over reacting, but it seems very harsh and so un-necessary. What do you think?
