Belrose Golf Society
The weather continues to dampen most peoples' spirits, but the sun shone for the Belrose golfers who travelled to Queens Golf Course in Bournemouth for their July Society Day.
Thirty-five members and five guests made up the format of a fourball, double points, yellow ball competition - an enjoyable format played on a particularly tight course.
Steve Spearing played some outstanding golf with 42 points (without yellow ball) and was also the winner of the nearest the pin and two-spot awards.
Brian Rogers picked up the award for the nearest to the pin in the two-cup, with Paul Lewers' team of four (Les Phillips, Don Weddall and John Boles) lifting the Black Hat award.
There were several memorable shots, but the two that stood out came from a Ivor McKennan tee shot on the third hole that flew on to the road and was flashed by a speed camera exceeding the 30mph limit.
The second came from organiser Les Phillips, who saw his tee shot on the 13th hit a concrete marker and fly more than 100 yards further back from the tee.
The winning team on the day included popular ex-member Phil Fisk, back from Portugal for the weekend, while Gary Hole, Tony Benn and Luke Strange made up the winning foursome with 138 points.
Adi Payne, John Sheppard, Ken Lovell and Derek Johnson were runners-up with 137 points. In third spot, with 126 points, were Ivor McKennan, Terry Williams, Dave Halsey and Puss Millington.
The Society would like to thank Derek Johnson for his sponsorship and Alan Graham from Greenslade Joinery for sponsoring the June event at Cheddington Court.
