NSPCC asks local people 'Can you HACK it' this September in Devon

Author: Hannah Published: 1st May 2012 11:40

It's time to pull on some hiking boots and take to the hills to help end cruelty to children in the UK. The NSPCC ‘s HACK (Hike Against Cruelty to Kids) is back for the second year in Dawlish Warren, Devon and the charity is looking for local people who want a real physical challenge to sign up to take part.

Enjoy all the natural beauty of the south west of England with this 25-mile walk taking place on Sept 16th 2012. The route will take you along the South West Coast Path and the Exe Estuary, into stunning forests, through quaint, historic villages such as Starcross and Holcombe and the seaside town of Dawlish. Or for those who want to enjoy the beautiful scenery over a less demanding distance, you can join us for our 10 mile walk. The event is open to everyone aged 16 and over.

It's a journey that will make you realise why Devon is famed as one of the most beautiful parts of England.

Alison Armer, local NSPCC community fundraising manager, said: "Training for the HACK is a great way to start a keep fit campaign, and taking part is an amazing challenge and experience. The HACK will be a fabulous day out in the great outdoors and a valuable opportunity to help the NSPCC raise money to support its projects and services in Plymouth and across the South West."

The HACK challenge can be great fun, but is hard work, the NSPCC recommends people who register, undertake some training before hand.  The terrain is very varied and the weather conditions can change quickly, so suitable walking boots, clothing and accessories, such as a rucksack, are recommended for all walkers.  Check out the training tips section on the NSPCC website www.nspcc.org.uk/hack for more information.

You can choose to register as an individual or a team and we'll provide you with lots of support to help you with your HACK, including a registration pack filled with top tips for training and fundraising.

The registration fee is £20 for the 25 mile walk and £10 for the 10 mile walk. For further details and online registrations and payments, please log on www.nspcc.org.uk/hack  or email devonhack@nspcc.org.uk. If you would like to register 16-18 year olds, please contact devonhack@nspcc.org.uk.

Once the registration is complete, entrants will receive a walker's pack outlining their start time and giving further details of the route. Participants can then begin collecting sponsorship pledges from friends, family and colleagues.
