Fuller Street footbridge, Cleethorpes
ESSENTIAL maintenance work is due to start on Friday, July 11, on the Fuller Street footbridge in Cleethorpes.
The bridge is used as a pedestrian route over the railway line from Harrington Street to the land behind the sea defences.
The maintenance is required to ensure the safety of the public using the bridge and also to upgrade it to current standards for bridges over Network Rail lines.
The work will involve the replacement of the anti slip stair treads, anti slip decking to the landings and main span, repairs to the mesh infill panels on the stairs and landings, replacement of the mesh infill panels to the main span with solid panels, surface preparation and painting of the structural steelwork.
The contract is programmed to last eight weeks and the bridge will be closed to the public throughout this period.
Part of Harrington Street between Manchester Street and Fuller Street will be closed to vehicular traffic to create a site compound for the contractor. The footpath will remain open.
Some of the work will have to be carried out at night at times agreed with Network Rail but restricted to Sundays between 1am and 9.15am.
North East Lincolnshire Council apologises for any inconvenience that may be caused but this work is essential to ensure the long term serviceability of the bridge.
