Volunteering England celebrates Volunteers' Week: 1-7 June 2007

THE THEME of the week, which runs from 1-7 June and is coordinated in England by VE, is "recognise, reward and recruit" and enables organisations and charities to publicly acknowledge the hard work of their volunteers. This year, the festivities will include a photography competition and the "VIP challenge", where MPs and local celebrities will volunteer within their communities, in addition to the hundreds of celebrations held by individual volunteer groups and charities.
A recent poll on the Volunteers' Week website revealed that volunteer appreciation was the most compelling reason for "why Volunteers' Week matters". Engaging with the local community and raising the profile of volunteering opportunities were the next most popular claims.
Sonya Roberts, Head of Communications and Marketing, said: "The challenge for the 23rd Volunteers' Week is to increase awareness of the millions of volunteers around the country who give their time so selflessly for their communities, whether in the voluntary, public or private sector. VE is delighted to be supporting them in their celebrations and I would urge organisations who would like to work with us in raising the profile of their volunteers to get in touch."
