|
Published: 9th July 2007 21:53 |
A cricket bat signed by Surrey's one-day team, The Brown Caps, will go to the owner of the winning raffle ticket, with all proceeds from ticket sales going to Croydon Scouting and Croydon Group Diabetes UK.The bat was presented to The Mayor when he attended this season's thrilling Friends Provident competition match between Surrey and Essex at Whitgift School. Among those playing for Surrey were former England players, Mark Butcher and Mark Ramprakash, and Pakistan's Azhar Mahmood. While Surrey lost by just 8 runs, the Essex team included a century from current England opener, Alastair Cook.Tickets, priced at just £1 each, will be on sale from the Mayor's stand at the Croydon Summer Festival weekend in Lloyd Park. Tickets can be bought at the African Caribbean Family Festival on Saturday, 14 July and on Sunday, 15 July at the Croydon Mela. The draw will take place on the Community Stage on the Sunday afternoon. The Mayor said: "I'm excited to be able to offer the opportunity of winning this priceless cricket bat to so many people. Many more people will benefit from the proceeds of the raffle ticket sales as Croydon Scouting and Croydon Group Diabetes UK carry out invaluable work in our community. So, please ensure you buy a ticket for this fantastic prize while supporting two very worthy causes."
