JOIN THE SUMMER BOOK TRAIL
|
Published: 4th August 2007 00:08 |
The Book Trail is a fun reading challenge for young people that takes place in libraries during the summer holidays. This year, for the first time, teenagers will have their own special TSR (Teen Summer Reads) challenge, with the opportunity to try some of the new up and coming authors for young people. Babies and toddlers can also join in the fun and take part in the Bookstart Book Crawl which encourages parents to share a minimum of six books with their baby over the summer. Certificates are then presented at special Rhymetimes sessions in September. The Deputy Mayor, Councillor Brian Udell will be visiting the Central Children's Library, Croydon Clocktower, Katharine Street on Tuesday, 24 July at 2pm to meet with youngsters taking part in this year's Book Trail. Last year the Book Trail attracted 5,976 children who read a total of 52,732 books. Councillor Steve Hollands, cabinet member for culture and sport, said: "Reading is one of the most enjoyable and accessible pastimes that anyone can take part in and the Book Trail is an ideal way to take advantage of the vast range of books available on loan from Croydon's libraries."
