FAMILY LEARNING IS FUN

Family Learning Week is a national event aimed at raising awareness of the important role the family plays in learning at all stages in our lives.

Hundreds of events are taking place this week at various venues around the Croydon borough, all designed to encourage intergenerational learning, where children, their parents, grandparents and carers come together to enjoy the benefits that learning as a family can have on individuals, families and whole communities. Participants can sometimes discover new interests, aptitudes and abilities, which they go on to explore. All family members find that they have something to learn and something to share.

Cabinet member for children's services and adult learning, Councillor Maria Gatland, said: "The family is an essential part of everyone's education and it's here our desire for life-long education is stimulated. The family's attitude to learning has a knock-on effect on a child's outlook and commitment to education.

"There is so much going on during Family Learning Week. I hope mums, dads, carers, aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents come along with children and enjoy what is going on."
