DO YOU HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO FOSTER A CHILD?

Published: 30th June 2007 20:54
MORE BLACK carers are also needed to ensure that babies in need of a foster home are placed with people who share their heritage.
To help people decide if they have what it takes, an information session has been arranged for Saturday 7 July at 10am at the Town Hall in Katharine Street.
Croydon's Cabinet Member for Children's Services and Adult Learning, Councillor Maria Gatland, said: "Although we have some 180 households who provide a foster home for a child, we always need more. That is why we continue to ask people to think about whether they could provide a home for a child.
"Become a carer for the first time may seem daunting and it is not a decision which can be taken lightly. However, we offer training and support which includes continuous back-up from a social worker, a confidential counselling service, a mentoring scheme and a 24-hour support service. There is also the chance to become NVQ-qualified in caring for children and young people."
