GET BACK TO NATURE AT THE WOODLAND FESTIVAL

Published: 3rd August 2007 23:42
The day will provide the chance for everyone to discover more about the ancient woodlands of Birch and Rowdown Woods, right on their doorstep.

Entertainment will include horse cart rides, a medieval camp and show, the Ferret Man, tropical butterfly tent, children's puppet show and mosaic workshop. There will also be the chance to meet a beekeeper and to see a range of rural crafts being demonstrated. Tasty refreshments will be available including farm ice creams.

Entry to the festival, running from 10am to 4pm, is free but there will be no dedicated parking facilities. The site is easily accessible by public transport, however. Buses T31, T32, 130 and 314 all stop along Goldcrest Way and serve the tram stop at Addington Village. For disabled access call 020 8726 6000 ext. 64952.

The festival has been organised as part of the Capital Woodlands Project, a three-year Biodiversity Partnership project supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Councillor Steve Hollands, cabinet member for culture and sport said: "Croydon has an abundance of attractive and thriving woodland which many people may not even be aware of. This event encourages us all to find out more about it so we can work together to protect and preserve it for future generations. "
