ENTERPRISE WEEK is a packed seven days of activities from Croydon Enterprise aimed at encouraging everyone in the borough to make their big business idea happen.
Kicking off the week on Monday (12 November), Ashley McKenzie rode the trams, letting people know about Enterprise Week and dishing out Croydon Enterprise goodies and information.
On Thursday (15 November) basketball legend turned entrepreneur Cory McGee will inspire a meeting of local businesspeople with his insights on effective networking.
And wrapping up the week, on Saturday (17 November) The Apprentice's Kristina Grimes - who juggled being a single mother with a successful career in sales - will address a special women's conference on the importance of making the right contacts to move your business idea forward.
Says Brian Stapleton, Croydon Enterprise Week organiser, ‘It sounds like a big claim, but the next seven days have the potential to change someone's world. Whether they decide to apply for money from our newly announced £1m fund to help their business grow, or attend one of the Enterprise Week events and get the confidence to give their business idea a try. Even if it's a case of just picking up the phone to the Business Hotline to see how we can help - I'd urge everyone who has a business dream to get involved.'
Throughout the week, people living in Croydon and around will have plenty of opportunities to take part - whether it's by attending The Open Music Forum designed to help boost Croydon's position on the musical map, or inputting their big ideas into one of the IdeasBANKS sited in local libraries and sports centres. Two i-pods are up for grabs for the best ideas submitted during the week.
And, inspired by the recent visit of TV Dragon Peter Jones, Enterprise Week sees the launch of the Dragon's Desk competition with the would-be entrepreneur with the best business idea awarded a year's free desk space at the London Innovation Centre (LINNOC) worth £5,000. Call LINNOC (0845 262 8545) for an entry form, closing date for entries is 3 December, with shortlisted entrants invited to present their ideas, Dragon's Den-style, on 12 December.
For a full programme of all events happening during the week, including a footballing workshop at Crystal Palace and a networking lunch for social enterprises call the Business Hotline on 020 8680 6161 or visit www.croydonenterprise.com/enterpriseweek
