CROYDON'S PUPILS DOING BETTER THAN NATIONAL AVERAGE
|
Published: 3rd March 2008 22:08 |
The percentage of pupils who achieve level five or better in English was 75%, compared to the national figure of 74%. In maths the figure was 76%, the same as the national average. For science, the figure was 70% which is slightly below the national average of 73%.The Government reports the attainment of pupils at Key Stage 3 as achieving Level 5+ or Level 6+ with Level 5 being the benchmark for most schools. The aggregate of test percentages show a year on year improvement and now puts us ahead of similar authorities with which Croydon is compared, and only 2% below the national average. The tests are a key indicator of how well pupils will do in their GCSE exams two years from now. Councillor Maria Gatland, cabinet member for children, young people and learners, said: "Croydon's results are amongst the best in London and are catching up with the national average. We are making constant and sustained progress each year and this is in no small part thanks to the hard work and dedication of our teachers and pupils. "However, there is no room for complacency and through the secondary school review, we are looking at ways to further drive up performance."
