Pre-school children together with their parents and carers, have helped put together the artwork as part of a project organised by Crazy Chameleons, a creative activity group based in New Addington.
The group has recently been enjoying books created by Eric Carle, who wrote and illustrated stories including The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Using the technique of painting paper and then cutting it up into shapes to create a collage, the 8 x 4ft design shows a scene of chameleons in the jungle.
Crazy Chameleons was set up in February 2006 by community artist Sue Ackon. The group meet for two hours each week at the Fieldway Centre in New Addington, to enjoy a range of creative activities, with a strong emphasis being placed on parents and carers being involved in the experience.
A private viewing of the collage will be held at 12 noon on Thursday 5 July, including an art workshop for the children and their parents and carers.
Councillor Steve Hollands, cabinet member for culture and sport, said: "This lively piece of artwork is a real feast for the eyes and truly lights up this area of the Clocktower - well done to all those who contributed. Groups like Crazy Chameleons are a valuable asset to the borough, so it is only fitting that the fruits of their labour are given such a public platform in which to shine."
The artwork will be on display in Croydon Clocktower Court from Monday 2 July until Tuesday 31. Clocktower opening hours are Monday to Saturday, 9am to 6pm.
