Meet Author Sadie Jones

Her widely tipped debut novel, The Outcast, is set in 1957 and tells the story of Lewis Aldridge who is nineteen years old and straight out of jail. His return home triggers the implosion not just of his family, but of a whole community. As the novel moves back through the aftermath of the trauma that happened a decade earlier his transformation into a young man who turns to self-harm and alcohol is powerfully depicted.

Those attending the event will also have the chance to ask the author questions and purchase signed copies of The Outcast.

Croydon's cabinet member for culture and sport, councillor Steve Hollands said: "An evening with this up-and-coming author is a great start to the National Year of Reading events in Croydon. All our residents are encouraged to join their local library and get reading."

The event is part of Booktrust's Get London Reading campaign, sponsored by 3M to encourage Londoners to make more time for reading, and to celebrate London as an international centre for books.
