Have Your Say On The Future Of Central Croydon

Published: 9th March 2008 12:42
There will be a stand giving information about the document on display in Croydon's central library from 17 to 31 March. Planning officers will also be on hand at lunch-times to answer residents' queries and explain what it is all about. The consultation document, Croydon Metropolitan Centre Area Action Plan (CMC AAP) Issues & Options Report, highlights the issues affecting planning in central Croydon and the options for future development and change. Feedback and opinions received on it will be used to formulate the CMC AAP, which will eventually become a statutory planning document. The final plan will provide a blueprint for the centre including detailed land-use planning policies and development proposals that could help to lead its economic, social, cultural and environmental regeneration. It will provide a comprehensive framework for development and investment decisions in and around central Croydon for the next 15 to 20 years. Background work on the plan has already been carried out, including a series of workshops organised with world-renowned architect Will Alsop, to draw up a new vision for central Croydon. These ideas have been fed into the report which is now out for consultation.Councillor Chris Wright, cabinet member for planning, said: "This consultation gives people a direct say into the future development of their town centre so it is important that residents take the opportunity to comment. Consultation publicity is being undertaken up to the 31 March and the public should endeavour to given their response if possible by that date."Councillor Tim Pollard, cabinet member for regeneration and economic development, added: "In the fifties and sixties Croydon changed almost beyond recognition and we are on the cusp of a similar change in how the town centre feels as a place to live, work and shop. The Alsop vision contained many ideas for improving the pedestrian experience and making the town centre greener and more fun to spend time in. Now we need to start turning those ideas into reality and this is the process which will achieve this."Comments can be made online by signing up to the LDF Consultee Database.
