Founded by Harry Fearnley in the Spring of 1977, St Peter's Singers is one of England's leading Chamber Choirs. Based at Leeds Parish Church, where rehearsals are held each Sunday evening from September to June, the Singers strive to combine excellence and enterprise. The Leeds organist and conductor, Dr Simon Lindley (Master of the Music at Leeds Parish Church and Leeds City Organist) has been Music Director of St Peter's Singers since the Choir's foundation.
St Peter's Singers have performed at York Minster, the Cathedrals of Derby, Ely, London's St Paul's, Ripon and Worcester. The Choir undertook its first overseas tour to Romania in November 2007, followed by a highly acclaimed visit to Mallorca in October 2009. The 2011 Tour of Brittany and Normandy will include recitals in the magnificent cathedrals of Vannes and Quimper. The Singers also recently took part in the live BBC TV production of Frankenstein's Wedding at Kirkstall Abbey and in the special Radio 4 Morning Worship broadcast from Leeds Parish Church celebrating the 200th anniversary of the birth of Samuel Sebastian Wesley, the renowned first Organist of the then- new Leeds Parish Church.
