CALLING IN ON FLOODED HOUSEHOLDS
Care and support for those residents who were flooded in June is at the forefront of the minds of Sheffield City Council officers, who during this month, will be calling on those households.
Over the next few weeks, officers will be knocking on the doors of flooded households in the city to see if they need any help and support and to check they're ok.
Council officers will have a short conversation with each householder they meet to gather information, provide basic information on help that's available and listen to any issues they have. They will use a questionnaire.
The visits will also be about ensuring that people get the £100 they are entitled to from the South Yorkshire Floods Disaster Relief Fund. Despite lots of publicity there's been low take up - a situation that's not unique to Sheffield, but common to many of the local authorities across the country who were flooded this summer. A short application form for the £100 can be completed whilst on the doorstep.
And in addition to that, the visits will help the Council identify households who, over Christmas, will still be in temporary accommodation or will only be occupying part of their property, so they'll be unable to have a traditional Christmas at home. Those families will be given vouchers or a cheque by the Council, that can be used for a meal out over Christmas, shopping or to put towards a day out. The vouchers are being funded from the money given to Sheffield by the Government for the flooding.
If no-one's home when Council officers visit, they will leave a response card so the resident will know they've been visited and how to get in touch.
