National Association of Widows

What we are is a self-help organisation, run by widows, for widows, that offers comfort, friendship and a listening ear to widows and unmarried women who have lost a partner through bereavement. We are not a professional counselling service but recognise that what most widows require, as much as anything else, is contact with people who understand how they feel; other people who, like them, have experienced the trauma that is widowhood. For many widows, the warmth and understanding provided by someone who has already been there proves invaluable.
We also provide a range of services exclusively for NAW members, in particular contact lists, branch meetings, social events, seminars and, for the first time this year, a range of holidays. A limited number of local help lines also exist.
We receive no government funding: all of our funds are generated from membership subscriptions, donations and fundraising activities at local and national level. However, within these limited resources, we campaign at national level for a better deal for widows.
The NAW is open to all widows and women who have lost a partner through bereavement, regardless of age or ethnic origin.
