"Emotional intelligence" lessons to hit UK schools
The Department for Education and Skills (DfES) is rolling out "emotional intelligence" lessons in schools to see whether it will improve youngsters' behaviour.
Secondary schools all over the country will include the "social and emotional aspects of learning" (Seal) project from the next academic year, the BBC reports.
Respect and anger management are among the other modules found in the emotional intelligence curriculum.
The initiative follows a number of pilot schemes which have taken place in certain schools, which were received with positive results, according to the DfES.
A Wimbledon school has already trialled the scheme and found that it helped to improve the pupils' behaviour.
Justine Green, a teacher at Pelham Primary School, told the BBC: "What we're doing in class seems to spill out into the playground. Problems continue to happen, but now the kids are more articulate and better at seeing things from the other person's point of view."
