Sheffield is a city in which music thrives. Musicians from Sheffield include Joe Cocker, Pulp's Jarvis Cocker, Def Leppard, Heaven 17 and Human League. There's a good choice of music venues in the city, and many tours offer dates in or near Sheffield.
Hallam FM Arena is a multi-purpose entertainment venue which hosts major concerts, shows, theatre and sporting events. Sir Paul McCartney and Oasis, Indoor Supercross and World Championship Boxing are just some of the recent events at the Arena, which is also home to ice hockey team the Sheffield Steelers and basketball's Sheffield Sharks. Don Valley Stadium is also a large venue, seating 52,000 in a stadium which has seen the likes of Michael Jackson and the Rolling Stones perform, as well as hosting prestigious sporting events. Sheffield City Hall is the venue for rock, pop and classical concerts as well as comedy, children's shows and operatics, and Sheffield Hallam University's annual graduation ceremonies.
On a smaller scale, The Deep End in Hillsborough offers live music most nights, plus open jamming sessions for aspiring rock idols. The Boardwalk in the city centre has been a music venue for 30 years, showcasing unsigned local bands and launching the career of Sheffielder Joe Cocker amongst others; it remains an established folk, blues and world music venue. Art:room is a bar which has live music, open mike sessions and serves food, whilst Casbah is a true rock ’n’ roll venue, with local bands and DJs. Corporation is a non-mainstream nightclub which attracts alternative bands, while Bistro Casablanca and Trippets offer live music in a smoky, laid-back wine bar environment. Last but not least, the Leadmill is infamous for attracting both up-and-coming and headline bands to its atmospheric nightclub.
