Female workstations 'full of germs'
Ladies beware: your desk at work could be teeming with germs, according to a new study.
Research conducted at the University of Arizona found that women's work areas had more bacteria than men's.
The study showed that workstations in the office have around 400 times more bacteria than the humble toilet seat.
And women's work areas have up to four times the amount of germs that men do, although a man's wallet was discovered to be extremely high in bacteria count.
The study creators put the results down to the fact that women are more likely to keep snacks hidden in their desks, while bacteria is easily transferred in make-up and other toiletries.
Professor Charles Gerba, lead researcher, was surprised at the results. He said: "I thought for sure men would be 'germier'.
"But women have more interactions with small children and keep food in their desks. The other problem is make-up.
"I was really surprised how much food there was in a woman's desk.
"If there's ever a famine, that's the first place I'll look for food."
