One in two would consider plastic surgery
Half of UK young women would have plastic surgery to improve their appearance, according to a new poll.
The BBC online study of 25,000 people discovered that women are the most concerned over their body image, especially when aged 17 to 34.
Nearly 33 per cent of women who are a size 12 and 66 per cent of size 14 women believe they are overweight or fat, with 43 per cent admitting they skipped meals in order to try and lose weight.
As the size zero debate continues and high-street retailer John Lewis opts to use larger swimwear models, many women remain confused and this is already been picked up by younger kids. The poll revealed that over half of girls aged 12 to 16 believe their body image has stopped them from getting a boyfriend or meant they could not relax in a relationship.
Less than 25 per cent of men said they would opt for plastic surgery as a way of improving their looks. However, this figure was significantly higher amongst women, with 36 per cent thinking of breast operations and 32 per cent considering liposuction.
